Inspiration

Overview

This trend had to be a success: Perfect curve radii, smooth biking and a long grin on your face. That's "Flow" and that's why the specially created downhill tracks are called Flow Trails! Because hand on heart: even the toughest under the sun don't always want to reach their physical and psychological limits. So if you prefer casual surfing instead of constant shaking, Flow Trails is the best choice for you. Beginners as well as hardcore riders, because it all depends on the course layout and the chosen speed.

Which brings us to Carinthia! Because in the last years here, step by step or better curve by curve, a Flow Trail offer was created, which can easily compete with the best in the Alps! The starting shot was fired in the sunny south of Carinthia, on the Petzen, with a 12km long Flow Country Trail, which by the way was awarded the world's best Fow Trail in 2014. What followed was the expansion of a flowing route network that is characterized by its charm, character and variety. From Naßfeld in the west with its MEX-Line over the Weißensee with three near-natural Downhills in the nature park to Bad Kleinkirchheim, where with 15km the longest Flow Country Trail in Europe has just been created. In the east, the offer on the Koralpe is rounded off with a gentle and a rougher flow trail, while on the Turracher Höhe the latest flow trail is being created and will open its gates in time for the 2020 season.

"The whole is more than the sum of its parts." The Carinthian Sommerbergbahnen also appreciate what Aristotle has already recognized and have packaged their Flow Trails into a fascinating overall offer "Flow Trails Carinthia". This way, pleasure-oriented downhillers can perfectly combine their personal "flow" with service and comfort: From selected, bike-friendly partner accommodations in various categories, to practical shuttle services, flexible ticketing for mountain lift use, equipment rental and the helpful Trail Hotline. For the planning and booking of your flowy bike trip through Carinthia, you will find all the proven "Points of Sales" on this page and of course the specially equipped "Flow Trail Info and Booking Center", staffed by the highly qualified Trail Angels team. So nothing stands in the way to your flow in Carinthia!

Information

Best time to travel

The best travel time for the Flow Trails in Carinthia is quickly described: whenever the mountain lifts are up and running, they take you to the start of every Flow Trail.

Between the beginning of July and the end of September all mountain lifts are in operation - this is the peak season.

However, most mountain lifts are open from the beginning of June to the beginning of October. Some of the lifts even start in mid-May and close at the end of October.

You can find more information about the individual bike area opening times here: www.flowtrails-kaernten.at

Requirements

We want you to find the flow of your life on the Flow Trails Carinthia and not be over- or underchallenged. Therefore, some general information about the requirements in 5 key points:

  • As a basic requirement you have basic knowledge of mountain biking on different types of surfaces as well as average riding ability.

  • If you are not sure if your skills are sufficient, have fun on one of the training courses or you could have a guideed riding technique training. By the way, both of these things will even helb the Pros and are fun!

  • The requirements of flow trails in Carinthia are extremely speed-dependent - similar to a ski slope. With a speed adapted to your ability, all flow trails are easy to ride if you meet the basic requirements. However, if you overestimate your ability, more serious falls may occur. So it's up to you!

  • "The last ride is the one that causes the most accidents" - not only when skiing: Flow Trails require a lot of concentration and a loss of concentration during the day is inevitable. Consider this when choosing your speed, take sufficient breaks and enjoy alcoholic drinks only in the evening.

  • Don't underestimate the physical demands of the Flow Trails, even if the start of all Flow Trails can be reached with a lift: Some of the Flow Trails are very long - the Flow Country Trail Bad Kleinkirchheim, for example, is the longest Flow Trail in Europe.

Minimum age of children:
  • Children under the age of 12 may only use the trails when accompanied by an authorized supervisor.

  • It is up to the parents to decide whether a child is able to ride the Flow Trail. In any case, children under the age of 14 must first be checked on the training course to determine whether they have the necessary driving skills. Note, however, that the Flow Trails are many times longer than the training course.

  • It is strongly recommended that parents get an idea of the Flow Trail beforehand without children in order to be able to decide whether their child can handle the Flow Trail.

Rules of conduct:
  • Mountain lifts provide the Flow Trails free of charge. The use of the trails is at your own risk. In addition, the rules of conduct and the general terms and conditions of the respective mountain lifts must be observed. These can be called up at the ticket offices and on the websites of the mountain lifts.

  • The use of the Flow Trails is permitted during the regular summer opening hours of the respective mountain lifts with a suitable bicycle and protective clothing.

  • Only the marked and signposted route may be used. Observe the general road regulations and provide first aid in an emergency.

  • Always drive at half sight and at controlled speed. If an unexpected obstacle appears: Get off the bike and pass the obstacle on foot.

  • Protect your head with a helmet and have your mountain bike checked regularly. Pay attention to the overview maps and tour descriptions.

  • Hikers have priority over mountain bikers. Pay special attention to motor vehicles and hikers. However, the Flow Trails may not be accessed by people on foot.

  • Be careful and attentive on forest roads, especially during forest work. You must be aware of working machinery, wood or potholes on the road, grazing livestock and motor traffic. Always close gates of pasture fences behind you.

  • To protect wild animals, biking is forbidden during and after dusk. Camping, campfires, disturbing wild animals as well as entering forest cultures below 3 m tree height is prohibited by law.

  • Take care of the environment. Keep it clean, dispose of waste in rubbish bins and avoid noise.

  • Spread the word. Share the rules of conduct with others.

Equipment

Mandatory equipment:

  • Helmet obligation (integral helmet recommended)
  • protective clothing (knee and elbow protectors, gloves and back protector) recommended
  • Functioning mountain bike (Fully is recommended)

All other personal equipment is at your own choice. Outdoor shoes with a profiled sole are recommended, to get enough grip on the pedals. Also keep in mind that some mountain lifts take you up to 2.000 m above sea level. With wind this can result in very cool temperatures, which should be considered when choosing your clothing.
