Stage 02: Wurzenpass - Baumgartnerhöhe

Stage description

Shadowy forests and secluded mountain pastures on the way through the western Karawanken range

After breakfast, a shuttle will take you back to the Wurzenpass, yesterday's stage finish and today's stage start.
About 400 m north of the border (on austrian territory) a forest road turns left (to the east), which is marked as hiking trail nr. 603. Follow this path in many bends to the Steinberg (1.655 m), and thus you have to master 600 meters in one go right at the start.
Now a long traverse follows along the lonely, wooded northern flank below the summits of Steinwipfel, Woschza and Techantinger Mittagskogel, which is riddled with deep ravines: you first climb slightly downhill towards Radendorfer Alm and then turn sharp right (to the south). Soon the path turns east again, and you walk parallel to the mountain ridge over the old marked "Grenzersteig" to the Korpitscher Alm.
Now follow the forest road in the same direction and pass under the Blekowaalm. Next you reach the Goritschacher Alm under the prominent Techantinger Mittagskogel. Walk a little further to below the Mallestiger Mittagskogel and then turn around on the way north.
The path gradually leads downhill past the Urschitzhütte. You cross the Rauscherbach and descend further west - the path takes you past the Zwanzger Hof until shortly after the Baumgartnerhof, your stage destination, is reached.
