Stage 20: St. Martiner Hütte - Tonnerhütte

Stage description

The highlight of the Panoramaweg Südalpen in the truest sense of the word: up to Zirbitzkogel (2.396 m) which is the highest peak of the trail and further to the final stage destination, the Tonnerhütte

From the St. Martin's Hut (overnight accommodation available) the trail leads past the Judenburger Kreuz to the Stoana Hut (trail 308). Now the actual ascent to the Zirbitzkogel begins. After one hour you reach Fuchskogel via a scenic Rückender. From there you have a very nice view of the Wildsee, which is located in a basin below the summit. The last section to Zirbitzkogel Schutzhaus or summit cross leads past the Lavant Lake. For the strenuous ascent you will be rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view. The last section of the Panoramaweg Südalpen leads back towards the Lavant Lake to the Tonnerhütte junction. Turn right here and walk downhill over lush alpine pastures to the Tonnerhütte. Now you can put your feet in the air - what remains are wonderful memories of a magnificent long-distance hiking trail.
