Mountain and lake view on your hike above Lake Wörthersee
ATTENTION: Our route is a deviation from the original stage Klagenfurt-Pörtschach and starts in Krumpendorf.
From the manor house Gut Drasing you follow the blue-white-blue markings of the Wörthersee Rundwanderweg to the west. Cross the Moosburger Straße L74, then follow the southern shore of the pond Wirtnigteich and reach the small settlement of Pirk.
(If you have spent the night directly in Krumpendorf, you will reach Pirk via the "Wasserweg", where you will return to the original route of the Wörthersee Rundwanderweg: From the boat pier in Krumpendorf, follow the light blue markings past the Vitalpark to the main road. The "Wasserweg" path begins at the junction of the Moosburger Straße L74 and leads along the river Pirkerbach to Pirk and up to the Wörthersee Rundwanderweg. In former times the Pirkerbach was a busy place: about 100 years ago there were several mills, a sawmill, a slaughterhouse, a house for flax processing and a fruit press.)
Directly behind the Gasthof Pirkerhof restaurant in Pirk you reach the highest point of the hike, the Pirker Kogel peak at 666 m - there you have wonderful views of the Karawanken mountains and Lake Wörthersee. This is a short but steep ascent. Between Hohen Gaisrücken mountain and Pörtschacher Alm mountain pasture, the light blue marked path to Pörtschach branches off the Wörthersee circular hiking trail. You go down a rugged path through quite steep terrain, pass under the highway and reach the town of Pörtschach. Here you will find old villas from the architecture of Lake Wörthersee. The "official" destination of the stage is the boat pier on the peninsula of Pörtschach.
